Thank you for the thoughtful analysis of the clean tech investment climate in Ontario. A recent Ernst & Young study dubbed Canada a "start-up paradise," (http://www.sse.gov.on.ca/medt/investinontario/en/Pages/news_details.aspx?NewsId=125) and we work hard to continually earn that reputation.

Tech start-ups always have an 'at bat' ratio. At the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Innovation, we try to make sure that we give companies with strong ideas a place to grow—whether they ultimately succeed or fail. We have provided economic development support for the growth of many clean technology companies that operate in Ontario. They are attracted by our business-friendly climate, highly educated labor force and clusters of IT, digital media and gaming, clean technology and renewable energy companies. Companies like Celestica (technology), Unirac (solar) and Better Place (electric car infrastructure) have chosen Ontario to start or expand their operations, with support from our Ministry.

Part of our commitment to start-ups that are launched in Ontario includes the Ontario Emerging Technologies Fund (http://www.ocgc.gov.on.ca/site/en/funds/ontario-emerging-technologies-fund/), which has been supporting start-ups since 2009.

Thanks again for a great article,
Shirley Townsend
